Creating experiences.

An opinion piece.

This is an opinion piece.

This article reflects my personal perspective on the importance of experience in design, and it’s okay to disagree with it. My aim is to share insights that I hope will resonate with others and encourage reflection, even if we come from different backgrounds or viewpoints.

Why I believe experience is important.

Experience is fundamental to beings that can be aware or conscious, as it shapes everything they know, feel, and believe. Unlike a purely mechanical or automated process, conscious experience is genuinely lived. This makes it real in the sense that it’s directly felt and understood by the being who perceives it, whether that experience is one of joy, sorrow, curiosity, or confusion.

The ability to experience is significant because it implies vulnerability and uniqueness. Unlike data that can be moved or objects that can be replaced, conscious beings have individual perspectives, emotions, and responses shaped by their experiences, which makes each life inherently precious. However, this doesn’t mean that experience is always positive. Many beings, whether human or otherwise, can face hardship, suffering, or even existential crises. Some beings may feel unsupported or disconnected, and while their ability to experience is real, it isn’t inherently designed to always be positive.

It’s important to recognize that the size of a group doesn’t correlate with the value of its experiences. Smaller groups or individuals often face unique challenges or possess distinct perspectives that larger groups may overlook or undervalue. These perspectives are essential as they often contain insights that only come from those specific conditions of life. Dismissing or marginalizing them leads to a less complete understanding of what it means to experience and live fully.

Working towards making experiences more positive or supportive matters because, in a way, it’s about respect and empathy. If we know that experiences are real and can impact a being’s life and sense of self, then helping create environments where individuals feel safe, validated, and capable of thriving becomes essential. This approach honors the inherent value of each being and their unique perspective. By supporting positive experiences, we contribute to a world where beings can feel seen, valued, and free to express who they are without fear or limitation.

Creating supportive experiences isn’t only about improving individual lives but also about enriching the broader environment. When beings feel understood and empowered, they are more likely to contribute positively to others, creating a cycle of support and understanding that benefits everyone capable of experiencing.

In this way, the importance of experience lies in recognizing that each conscious being, regardless of its form, holds a distinct and invaluable perception of the world. Working to make that experience more supportive allows those unique perceptions to flourish, reminding us all of the diversity and richness that each life brings.

This section is gonna have tips for inclusive & supportive design.

This is just my notes for now :p

Using an inclusive foundation, then further personalizing it is a powerful approach!

Give examples of design choices that are supportive without sacraficing inclusivity, like the incorperation of nature and physics.

Showcase how to personalize experiences while preserving privacy. (I should prolly make another article about privacy in the future and link to it here! :0)

Maybe I could have a closing statement

Thank the reader with closing statements.

Give additional third party resources uwu.
